Momentum Grows for Youth Arts as Taree Universities Campus Secures Funding

Taree Universities Campus (TUC) has successfully secured $30,915 in funding for the revival of “Live n Loud” to provide workshops and music events with a focus on a Youth Music Festival.

The recent success of Beats on the Bank events has highlighted the exceptional talent of young MidCoast musicians and inspired initiatives to revive the “Live n Loud” format of previous years. Beats on the Bank is a collaboration of Taree Universities Campus, headspace and MidCoast Council with other local organisations assisting across a range of events.

The Live N Loud Youth Music Revival grant from the Minns Labor Government’s 2024 Youth Opportunities program will ensure the continuation of the momentum and collaboration arising from Beats on the Bank held in December 2024.

The organisations involved recognise the need for regular, youth-driven music programs. Donna Ballard, CEO of Taree Universities Campus, says “Beats on the Bank demonstrated the incredible potential of local young people when given the chance to shine. Their enthusiasm and feedback during the event was instrumental in shaping the vision for the Live n Loud Youth Music Revival, ensuring it reflects their needs, aspirations, and creative energy.”

The Live n Loud Youth Music Revival will leverage the growing enthusiasm towards Beats on the Bank by offering structured opportunities. Evan Weller, Campus Coordinator of Taree Universities Campus, framed the funding application to ensure young people are involved with the planning and managing of regular music events, accordingly, getting  hands-on experience in event logistics, sound production, and marketing.

Evan says, “the focus is on collaborating with industry mentors, for local artists to develop leadership, communication, and technical skills that will foster their personal and professional growth.”

Minister for Youth Rose Jackson noted the significance of the Youth Opportunities grants in supporting initiatives like Live n Loud in her statement affirming , “When young people feel empowered to bring their ideas and opinions to the table and feel that these contributions are respected, it fosters personal confidence and professional growth. This program allows NSW youth to take the lead on a range of innovative projects, overcoming barriers and creating a greater sense of belonging within their local area.”

The Beats on the Bank event and the subsequent funding for Live n Loud Youth Music Revival are part of TUC’s broader mission to enhance opportunities for young people in the MidCoast region. The planned events will bring together emerging artists aged 12-24. Through mentorship, skills development, and access to resources, these programs aim to inspire and equip the next generation of leaders, artists, and innovators to explore professions in the creative industries.

Taree Universities Campus looks forward to continuing valuable community collaborations to achieve even greater success in the future. Individuals or businesses interested in contributing to the next 12 months of workshops and events are encouraged to express their interest by contacting Evan Weller at evan.weller@tareeuni.org.au
